Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital:
The largest diagnostic and acute care hospital in the West Kootenays, the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) is a 75-bed full service regional hospital serving 80,000 people in the Kootenay Boundary region. KBRH offers core specialist physician services including 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Level 2 Laboratory, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Acute and Obstetrical Care, Orthopedics, Plastics, Urology, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Chemotherapy and advanced diagnostic services. KBRH is the regional base for the 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) consisting of dedicated critical care transport nurses, and as required, respiratory therapists, who respond to support rural and remote clinicians in the transport and management of critically ill and injured patients. Transport is supported by BC Ambulance Services (BCAS) for major medical care with transfer to Kelowna that is 313 kilometers from Trail.
BC Cancer is creating a full-service cancer clinic to serve the Kootenay Boundary region of BC’s interior. The clinic, once fully staffed, will consist of four Medical Oncologists and one GP Oncologist, along with nursing and clerical support, working in the lovely city of Trail, BC. While working in the cancer clinic in Trail, you will be a member of the BC Cancer Kelowna Medical Oncology department, which consists of 28 Medical Oncologists, GPO’s and NP’s. The Trail Cancer Clinic will offer innovative therapy in a personalized practice environment, housed in the Kootenay Boundary Hospital, a 75-bed regional hospital offering on-site Radiology, Pathology, Surgery and Pharmacy services. The Trail Cancer Clinic serves a network of local communities, with a catchment area of approximately 100,000 people, performing over 600 consultations and related care per year. The Clinic will administer a full range of IV and oral systemic therapies.
As a BC Cancer Medical Oncologist working in Trail, you will have the support of your colleagues in the clinic and be part of a close-knit team of physicians, clerks, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and dietitians, all integrated with the local surgeons, radiologists and pathologists.. As part of BC Cancer Kelowna, aligned with our Interior Health partner, you will have the support of regional and provincial colleagues, provincial and regional tumour groups, and tumour board conferences for case discussions. In the future, clinical trials enrolment will be supported at the Clinic, increasing research and care opportunities.

Our provincial cancer system structure is a key element of our success and ample opportunity exists for collaboration across and within our provincial tumour groups. As a Medical Oncologist, you will report to the BC Cancer Kelowna Head of Medical Oncology for issues related to professional practice, research, teaching and standards of care.
